Song Four: Is He Worthy?
We see the brokenness around us and long for someone who can make things right. “Is He Worthy” brings that longing into worship, pointing us to Jesus, the Lamb who was slain and the King who has overcome. Our hope for the future rests in the one who is worthy to redeem it.

Is He Worthy
A devotional by John Hopper
I don’t have much hope for this world. History is my evidence. In what era has there been world peace? In what age did violence, theft, and greed cease? When did poverty and disease no longer bring pain, heartache, and grief? People have always believed that their generation—or the next—would have the answer, that new rulers, programs, and technologies would make the world a glorious place to live. And yet the promise of tomorrow has fallen short decade after decade, millennium after millennium.
It’s easy to point to outside forces as the reason for such a broken world, but doing so is only a convenient excuse. The problem is not global warming, insufficient education, or government overreach. The problem is the human heart. Why do we do the evil we do? Why do we fail to do the good we could? What we see in the world is nothing more than the sum of billions of people like you and me who fall woefully short in one way or another.
So where do we turn? Who can make right what has gone so wrong in us? Who can banish evil, suffering, and death? Who can make love the rule of every day? And who can forgive us for what we’ve done and make the world new again?
I know of no one except Jesus.
He is the one who died to free us from our sin.
He is the one who conquered death.
He is the one who can make us new.
He is the one who has prepared for us a home of peace, love, and wonder, where we will dwell forever.
Who, then, is worthy of our worship? It certainly isn’t a politician, a pop star, or an athlete.
It is Jesus. None other than Jesus. May we offer him our eternal praise.
