Wilmington, NC, also known as the “Port City,” “Hollywood East,” or the home of Michael Jordan if you’re a sports fanatic, has a beautiful, historic, waterfront downtown uniquely surrounded by numerous beaches.
Wilmington is smack dab in the middle of the Bible belt with no shortage of churches. It’s also one of the most moved-to cities in America and home to UNCW, making it a spiritual melting pot.
Recent studies reveal that most Americans are “open to a spiritual conversation.” With a presence in Wilmington since July 2023, Search offers the opportunity to pause and explore some of the questions that can be hard to safely discuss in the midst of a busy life. Area director John Freshwater has found that people here are ready to get beyond superficial pleasantries and talk candidly about life, family and those seemingly imponderable questions (What’s the meaning of it all? How can there be a God amidst so much evil and suffering?) that are easy to put off but too important to ignore.
