John Freshwater

Before joining Search, John served in various capacities as a pastor, tennis pro and franchise recruiter. He has lived near the beach his entire life and loves all sports and games. In fact, he jumps at the chance to compete in just about anything (ask him about his wedding competition). John and his wife, Mary, love spending time with their four kids and spending time near the water.

Why did you choose to join Search?

I grew up in a Christian home in the 90s, which, to quote comic Nate Bagartze, is the “most Christian you can get… I think Jesus had more fun than me.” Although I happened to have a great childhood, there were still questions left unanswered. There were too many times when the response was “Well, you just gotta have faith,” which wasn’t good enough for me. Ironically, while I was a terrible student in high school (1.9 GPA thank you very much), I now love researching science and history and how it applies to philosophy and religion. I love learning from other perspectives and beliefs that differ from mine. Goodbye to polarized news and internet debates. Hello to authentic friendships and real conversations!
